How to properly credit creators when using downloaded materials?

I’ve been editing short travel compilations for fun, and sometimes I want to use little clips I saved from Instagram. I never post them as my own work, but I do upload on my private page for friends to see. The problem is, I’m not sure what’s the right way to credit the original creator. Is tagging them enough, or should I write out their handle in the caption? Curious how others handle this without looking like they’re stealing content.

When I share something I didn’t create, I always make it super clear who the original author is. Usually I tag their profile directly, but if that’s not possible, I’ll write their name in the post description. I think most creators just appreciate being acknowledged. I use SnapInsta to grab clips, and since it saves cleanly without watermarks, I make sure to add my own credit line so no one mistakes it as mine. Better to over-credit than under-credit.
